Season Three

The final episode of Spirited season two, I’ll Close My Eyes, aired on 21 September 2011. At the time of airing it was not yet known whether there would be a third season of the show. The season finale was skilfully written to imply conclusion of the series, but also to allow room for another season.

On 27 September 2010 Foxtel issued a statement announcing the go ahead for season two, we’re hoping to have a similar time frame for the season 3 announcement.

Press quotes pertaining to a third season:

Host: The third series, here we are at the end of the second series. What, you haven’t had a meeting, Jaqueline and yourself haven’t sat down and said “We’re talking big bucks this time!”?

Claudia: In our dreams! Um, Jac and I are dead keen to do a third and we’ve got a couple of ideas up our sleeves but, no, we’ll know in the next few weeks whether they want to go again, um, Foxtel. I’m kind of hoping with the critique we’ve had, particularly recently, most of them were ending in things like, “more please, more please”, that we’ll be able to do it again.
- Claudia Karvan, Radio Interview ABC 774 Melbourne, 21 September 2011

In the meantime she’s hoping Spirited, the Foxtel romantic drama series she created with Love My Way team Jacquelin Perske and John Edwards, will continue for another season. ”The figures have been pretty good,” she said.

- Claudia Karvan, The Sunday Herald, 11 September 2011

“Spirited is down on its performance of Season 1 by about 8% which is not dramatic. I love the show. I think it’s spot on for the channel that it plays for which is W. It plays to that female audience. Its performance is good but not spectacular. Do we go again? When we make the decision about a further series it will be looking at the overall performance of the show combined with research that we do with our subscribers.”

- Brian Walsh (Foxtel Director of Television), TV Tonight, 5 September 2011

Any decision on a third season?
“Probably in September, maybe even in October. But we’re champing at the bit. We feel like there’s a lot more fun yet to be had.”

- Claudia Karvan, TV Tonight, 23 July 2011

Do you think there’ll be a third season?
“I really, really hope so. I put my hand up and said I will definitely come back for another series. Jump at the chance … I just love the job. It’s my favourite job that I’ve done probably.”

- Matt King, Perth Now, 19 July 2011
